Huddersfield’s international appeal

Updated: Dec 20, 2021

Eleven years ago, Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club (LTSC) was one of the first clubs in the UK to adopt two padel courts. Earlier this year they celebrated their reopening, in partnership with Game4Padel, with the addition of an all-weather canopy roof. Since then, shielded from the West Yorkshire weather, padel at the venue has attracted growing interest – not least from a group of Huddersfield University overseas students.

As Covid restrictions relaxed, overseas students have returned to

the campus, from Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Dubai (padel is the fastest growing sport in the UAE), and brought friends from other North of England Universities to play at Huddersfield LTSC.

Fawaz al Ajmi, aged 20 (pictured), had played padel for only two months in Kuwait before coming to study at Huddersfield and is now hooked on the game. Fawaz says, “It’s a great club and I really enjoy the coaching sessions with Nico (Nick Holloway, Head G4P Coach). I think Nico is doing a great job growing the sport and improving playing levels. My friends and I are now motivated to take the sport more seriously”.

To try padel, please contact club coach Nick Holloway (n.holloway87@yahoo.co.uk) to organise a free introduction for a group of 3 or 4 people. Rackets and balls are provided.

You do not have to be a member of Huddersfield LTSC to play there. To book a court contact the club www.hltsc.com or www.Game4padel.com. Alternatively, download the Playtomic app on iOS or Android and book directly online.
